Devils Bridge

Spanning the River Lune to the south and east of Kirkby Lonsdale is Devil’s Bridge. This magnificent three-arched bridge, probably dates from the 12th or 13th century, and is now a scheduled ancient monument. At the apex of the bridge, there’s a deep impression in the stone – often referred to as the devil’s handprint.

The Vault: A Story Bank

At the back of Kirkby Lonsdale’s Tourist Information and Gift Shop (previously a bank), behind the iron door is the original vault room where as once it would have kept safe valuable papers and possessions it now keeps the town’s precious memories and stories past and present. 

Lakeland Maze Farm Park

A real working family farm, home to the famous Lakeland Maize Maze

In 2004, owners Graham and Jane decided to grow a maize maze and open their doors to the public.

Since then the park has expanded to include play equipment, petting areas, purpose built all weather mazes, a café, soft play area and so much more. Each year something new and exciting happens, so no visit is ever the same!

Carnforth Heritage Visitor Centre

Carnforth is an important railway junction on the main west coast London-Glasgow-Edinburgh routes with connections to the photogenic south and west Cumbria.

During the two World Wars thousands of servicemen passed through Carnforth en route to duty overseas. But its main claim to fame is its starring role in David Lean’s romantic classic 1945 film, Brief Encounter.

Ruskins View

From the far corner of the churchyard of St Mary’s follow the signs to Ruskin’s View where the path opens into Church Brow, a promenade high above the River Lune. There you can feast your eyes on a breathtaking panorama of the Lune Valley and Underley Hall – the famous, heavenly Ruskin’s View. In 1875, John Ruskin described the panorama as ‘one of the loveliest views in England, therefore in the world’.
